Winter Feet

Over the weekend I looked down at my feet and realised that I haven't been paying them any attention lately. Considering they carry the weight of me I think it's time to give them some well deserved TLC.
During the winter we tend to forget about our feet. Take care of them in the colder months too! Here are some tips on how you can do that:

  • Don't wear the same pair of shoes everyday and don't wear shoes that don't fit properly. Only put on dry footwear - Athletes Foot and Fungal Nail infections are common conditions exacerbated by damp conditions.

  • When at home, never walk bare footed on the floor. Bare feet that are exposed to the cold will become cracked - marble floors inparticular. Try to wear slippers all the time.

  • Pedicures should be done on a regular basis. It will keep your feet properly cleaned and stylish. Your nails will be in shape and also free from all the dust/dirt in the corners. If you can pay someone to do this GREAT but if you want a cheaper option - do it yourself which is simple.

  • Ensure your nails are cut. Straight across and not too short but mid-length and file them afterwards.

  • Keep a foot file or pumice in your bath or shower. I have a great foot file called a Ped Egg. Concentrate on the heels. Also use a foot exfoliant such as Scholl Rough Skin Remover.

  • After bath or shower, use some lotion.  Moisturiser keeps them smooth and doesn’t let them become dry and rough. Massage especially on the heels where the skin cracks the most. Try and also do this before you go to sleep - keep next to your bed so you don't forget. To boost the effect wear socks - your feet will really love you for it in the morning.

  1. I had reiki done on my weekend getaway at Whistler and she did a sugar maple syrup exfoliation that was heavenly.

If my feet can look like the ones in the pic after these tips....!

  2. I have had that sugar treatment on my hands - oh so soft afterward. I hope you got to play footsie with your husband!

  3. Also recommend NEVER letting them use blades on your feet to take off dead skin, if you do go to a salon to get your pedicure done. Very dangerous for transferring infection, bacteria etc because you can never be sure of sterility...so says my nurse mom.

I find Burts Bees lemon cuticle cream very good on un-polished toenails - you know, when they look a bit manky?
